Originally built for the 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition, the land was the initiating of the city park movement in Nashville. Years took its toll, and in 2014 many of the exterior stone walls were deteriorated. New perimeter walls along with additional site masonry made up this park update.
Construction consisted of large crab orchard stone seat walls, paver walkways, updating the perimeter walls using precast panels, and blocks of crab orchard placed throughout.
